Vol. 04: Raft Construction 01 - 31 August 2010

Chapter 01 : Introduction For This Week.

For this week, we started our raft construction work. We began the construction for the base part first, which was we used all our previously cut bamboos to make the base.

Chapter 02 ; Construction Of The Base ( the beginning )

This picture is showing how we cut our bamboo....... which is by, one person is pulling on one end and the other person is pushing at the other end..... by doing this, the amount of energy needed can be reduced significantly... not only that... the amount of time needed to cut is also too short.... an average it only took us around 1 minute to cut a bamboo...

in this picture, we could see that the cut bamboos were roughly not the same length..... So we decided to cut the end part to make more same in length...

this picture is showing how we are cutting the end part.....

The picture above is showing how we measured all the cut bamboos in the same length.

Mean while this picture is showing, the next step we did... which were cutting the end part of the bamboo... this is to reduce the diameter of the bamboos, to make sure that the end part fits perfectly with the 45 angle elbow pipe fitting....

The picture above shows clearly the fitting of the pvc elbow and how we were cutting the bamboo end.

in this picture, we could see that how the bamboos look like after it is fitted with the pvc connector.

In this picture, nabil

This photo above is showing the scale and proportion of the base of the raft with us and how big it would in the end.

Chapter 03:  New Materials Arrivals.

The pictures above are showing the 45 angle elbow p.v.c. pipe fitting which we used to make the connection between two bamboos.

Mean while this picture is showing the 3 used tire tubes which we will use in this project.
The tubes, we got it for the parking area at the boy hostel at bakti...

Chapter 04: More Bamboos Needed

The two photos above shows that we are hunting for new and extra bamboo because the original bamboos we got, were inadequate.... One of the reason why we didn't cut more bamboos earlier is because we do not want to waste the resources. Furthermore, we feel if there is a need to cut a bamboo.... than we cut... if not... we tried to save the trees...

Chapter 05: Extra Time..... Help Other Team

Because our team finished the job early for this we.... and we had a few extra time...... we decided to help our neighboring team..... which is Shafiq's team.....  we decided to lend in some hand to shafiq's team because on the previous week, shafiq helped us during the bamboo hunting week.... so we feel it is our time to help him back...

Vol. 03 : Technical And Details - 24 August 2010

Chapter 01 : Introduction For This Week
For this week, we were more focused on the fine tuning of the design. This is because the preliminary design was just for the general idea. So for this week, we focused on the measurements of the raft.
Our team purposely alternate the type of work we do for each week, this is because we feel it is more interesting to have one week of group discussion and the next is the working time. We feel this is important to help us in creating the raft and it feels like the same environment in the working life, where there is frequent technical meeting to solve all related issues. But starting from next week, we will be more focused on the construction process.

Chapter 02 : Technical Drawing of The Raft

Chapter 03 : New 3D Image Of The New Raft

Chapter 04 : Work Done By Each Group Member For This Week
For This Week : Azim B. Hamzah  : the part for the 3D making of the raft.

Muhammad Nabil B. Jamaludin : drawing the plan in AutoCad
Muhammad Mohibbuddin B. Sahul Hamid : involved in the final posting on the blog.

Chapter 05 : Conclusion For This Week
Overall the main design of the base for the raft is final and complete and for the dome part, we feel that there is still room for the improve it and the main frame for the dome are agreed.
We feel the current design is suitable and adequate to carry all 3 of us and for the next week, we plan to start the construction of the base first. This is because it is the main structure for the raft.

Vol. 02 : Hunt For Bamboo - 17 August 2010

Chapter 1:  Location

The location for the bamboo hunt is in the compound of Fajar Bakti area.....
To be more exact of the location.... it is just behind Nabil's room...

Chapter 2: Tools

For this work process..... we only used 'parang' to cut the bamboos.... We didn't buy the parang because our team member Nabil brought it from his home....

Chapter 3: Start WorK (walaupun puasa kena kerja jugak : )

there's nothing wrong with the photo above..... it's just din and nabil were standing on a slope..... so that's why the photo looks awkward...

this photo shows din and azim were pulling a bamboo branch..... it got stuck in between other bamboos

meanwhile this photo shows nabil and din pulling another sticked bamboo branch........ actually.... almost every bamboo we chopped off got sticked with other bamboos.... dah la puasa... lepas 2 kena tarik kuat2 pulak.... letih betul

the photo above shows azim is chopping off a bamboo branch....

meanwhile this photo shows... how din is sharpening the parang by pushing it on the brickwork of the drainage system..... ( terlupa nak bawa batu pengasah... 2 yang kena buat macam ne... cara tradisional dan kuno )

this photo shows Nabil is chopping off the small branches on the main bamboo branch....

Chapter 4:  Special Thanks To Syafiq & Nabil

we as a team would like to thank syafiq for the help he gave to our team...... this is because one of the chopped bamboo branch was so hard to pull off..... only after combined strength of syafiq, din and azim... we managed to pull it off..... yahoooooOO akhirnya..... nabil wasn't in this photo because he was resting because he was having fever.....

Din and Azim would like to thank Nabil for join the group in the hunt for the bamboo..... this is because Nabil was actually not well ( tengah demam panas ).... even he was sick.... he still joined the group to chop the bamboos......

Chapter 5: Temporary Material Storage

the bamboos that we chopped off are temporary resting behind nabil's room at Fajar Bakti.....

Chapter 6:  Time To Balik & BUka PuAsa

Because of we were so tired after cutting the bamboos.... we actually forgot to take a photo of us going back......

to be continued for the update 24 August 2010...............

Vol. 01: Introduction - 10 August 2010

Chapter  1: Introduction To The Project

For this project, we are required to build a floating dome which is capable of carrying 3 person on board plus it is a able to survive or no major maintenance work needed to be done for 48 month.
Besides that, the boat is adequate with space for all the food, medicine and other survival kits.

Chapter 2 : Group Member

Group Name : PAPADOME

1. Muhammad Mohibbuddin B. Sahul Hamid ( The guy with the shinny Botak Head )
2. Muhammad Nabil B. Jamaluddin ( The guy covered with Blue Blanket )
3. Azim B. Hamzah ( The guy that is staring at the floor )

Chapter 3: Group Discussion

The picture above shows how we as a team discussing on how to design for the project.

Chapter 4: Planning

Full project planning will be issued before 17th August 2010.
The pictures below only shows the preliminary planning process.

Chapter 5: Timeline

Previous/ Past : 10 August 2010
Next Closest Update : 17 August 2010
Weekly Updating : 24, 31 August / 7, 14, 21 September
Submission & Testing : Wednesday 22 September 2010

Chapter 6: Preliminary Design

The pictures above shows that the preliminary design on how the boat will look like.

DOME TYPE

For this project, our dome radius is 900cm or the diameter is 1800cm and we choose to build the 2V shape dome. We feel this amount of radius is suitable and more practical to apply for this project. We feel that by creating a small space, we are able to explore more on how to maximize a minimum space. This can be done by fully utilizing the space and creating a multi-purpose space within the minimum compound. Besides that, we feel it is more easy for the boat to assembled and carried by 3 person.

Chapter 7: Building Materials

Chapter 8: Special Features

There are a few special features for the boat that will be only shown a few weeks before the final submission.
This step is important because we want to protect the copyright patent.

Chapter 9: Reference

Most of our reference came from this site and we only studied on how the owner of this website build a boat with his friends.
